Corporal Walter J. Wynn

The NYPR Archive Collections | Jan 1, 2000

A veteran of WWII and an artist, Corporal Wynn is interviewed by Frank Kleinholz. Wynn has written and illustrated, "Why I Hate the Nazis" just published by the ACA Gallery. He is joined by his buddy Sgt. Harry Davis.

Corporal Wynn was in England, Africa, Sicily, Corseca, and Italy. He was in special services where he organized shows, ran a library, and painted murals. He talks about meeting some German "supermen" POWs. Wynn was previously a commercial artist.

He was upset upon returning home that there might be a future war against the Soviet Union. He talked about how he came to write the book and his meeting of Italian anti-fascist partisans as well as some fascists in Italy. Wynn reads from the dramatic conclusion of his book calling for a good and just peace.
