Yesterday, Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein released the transcript of an August Senate Judiciary Committee interview with former journalist Glenn Simpson.

Simpson is founder of Fusion GPS, the company hired by Hillary Clinton’s campaign to investigate then-candidate Donald Trump’s background and any connections between him and the Kremlin.

Fusion hired former British spy Christopher Steele, whose explosive dossier became a sensation for some of its sordid details. It also became a point of contention between Democrats, who lauded it, and Republicans, who rebuked it.

Feinstein released the transcript against the will of Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley. She said releasing the transcript was the only way to set the record straight and let people judge for themselves.

So what’s in there to judge, and where does that leave the committee’s investigation?

Byron Tau is a congressional reporter for The Wall Street Journal, and he discusses what was revealed in the testimony, and what it means for the future of the many investigations into the Trump campaign's ties with Russia.
