Connecting Congress: Rep. Rice

The Brian Lehrer Show | Jan 13, 2016

U.S. Representative Kathleen Rice (D-NY4) connects her job in Washington with her constituents in Nassau County.

Congresswoman Rice started by reacting to the State of the Union address from President Obama last night. She thought it was "incredibly powerful" that Obama took partial responsibility for "the toxic atmosphere in Congress." She said she felt it was a challenge to Republicans and Democrats alike to think about how they're responsible for partisan clashes and how much better they could be if they work together.

When asked about the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the congresswoman said she has not yet decided how she’s going to vote and she’s continuing to consult with stakeholders. But she did say that, based on the blueprint for the trade deal, she believes it will strengthen national security and create more opportunities for American businesses overseas.
