Confrontation Magazine

The NYPR Archive Collections | Jan 1, 2000

On this episode of Black Industrial Revolution, moderator Raymond C. Turner is joined by Daniel Henry and John Gaybree, the Publisher and Editor of Confrontation Magazine. Another staff member [Russell Broom] joins later.

Confrontation Magazine is a new publication that aims to present an alternative approach to modern issues. Mr. Gaybree describes the publication as one-half a traditional magazine - with fashion editorials, music reviews and short fiction - and a second half devoted to the larger issues of the day such as "freedom." One of the purposes of the magazine is to communicate between black and white readers.

The men discuss how they find contributors, funding, and a focus on readers who are 35 and below. They elaborate on the political conflict between the older "establishment" generation and the youth. This publication seems to have no relation to Confrontation, a literary journal, which also released its first issue in 1968.

Turner ends with a few remarks on recent school strikes in New York City.
