The sounds of Colombia and its traditional cumbia rhythm underlie much of the music of the band Combo Chimbita. Based here in New York, the group plays a colorful, sometimes almost psychedelic blend of cumbia rhythms and twangy, flange-y electric rock and funk, all supporting Carolina Oliveros’s powerful vocals. Combo Chimbita plays a free concert at MOMA, the Museum of Modern Art, in the sculpture garden this evening.
