City Prepares To Start Moving Homeless New Yorkers Back Into Shelters

WNYC News | May 20, 2021

The city has sent out a letter to shelter providers to share with their homeless clients currently living in hotels. The letter says they’ll be moved back into congregate shelters soon, though it doesn't provide a specific timeline. Those who have a disability or medical condition can apply to remain in the hotels. The de Blasio administration moved about 10,000 homeless people out of shelters last spring to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The mayor says the pandemic is now receding and it’s appropriate for homeless residents to return to shelters, where he says people can get more supportive services.
