Catalonia, a wealthy Spanish region with its own parliament and language, will vote on its independence from Spain this Sunday. Meanwhile, the Spanish government has ruled the referendum unconstitutional and done everything in its power to quash voter turnout: Spanish national police have seized referendum flyers and ballot boxes, arrested Catalan officials, and intimidated media outlets that have publicized the vote. Vicent Partal is founder and editor of VilaWeb, one of the Catalan news organizations targeted in the crackdown. He and Bob discuss why the severity of the moment justifies his decision to suspend journalistic objectivity.
