The Case For Safe Injection Sites In New York

The Brian Lehrer Show | Mar 2, 2018

Kassandra Frederique, New York State director at the Drug Policy Alliance, argues that New York should introduce safe injection sites, places where people can inject drugs with clean needles, as a way to prevent overdoses. And, Dr. Thomas Farley, commissioner of health in Philadelphia, talks about that city's plan to implement safe injection sites.

Plus: Shantae Owens, a former drug user and advocate with Vocal New York, calls in to talk about why these sites are life-saving, and points out that people who use drugs are tired of having other people make decisions for them. He says users need these safe sites now.
