Carmen Linares at Drom - A Casa Limón Showcase
Tickets: $15-20. Show at 7 pm.

Carmen Linares is considered one of the greatest living flamenco singers. But she’s also crossed over into the worlds of jazz and classical music, including a performance with the New York Philharmonic. Linares made her reputation in the 1970's and 80's, and has since become a mentor to and a reference for a younger generation of flamenco singers with her classic flamenco sound they call the “torn throat,” perhaps akin to the gritty quality of a blues singer. She was one of the first flamenco artists invited to Lincoln Center to perform with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. She also collaborated in the film “Flamenco” by Carlos Saura. Flamenco singer Carmen Linares performs Thurday, Oct. 17, at Drom, on Avenue A.
