David Nutt is the director of the neuropsychopharmacology unit in the Division of Brain Sciences at Imperial College London. He claims to have invented a viable alcohol substitute that includes all of the benefits of alcohol and none of the risks — and no one in the media or business thinks his product stands a chance in the marketplace. He joins Brooke to discuss his product, called "alcosynth," as well as corporations' hostility toward illicit substance innovation (that is, until there is any money to be made) and his analytical view that alcohol poses more risks to British society than any other drug.
