The rapper known as Brother Ali converted to Islam when he was 15, and has spent the past 25 years releasing songs full of pointed social commentary, religious imagery from both East and West, nerdy musical references, and maximalist, often playful productions. Working with the beatmaker Ant, who is half of the hip hop duo Atmosphere, Brother Ali has just released a new album called Satisfied Soul, and he and Ant came to our studio to play this song, called “D.R.U.M.”  Brother Ali's live set in our studio is the latest edition of the Soundcheck Podcast.
