The violinist and vocalist known as Rini was born Harini Raghuvan in southern India, but is based here in the States, and her music reflects the sounds of both places. Rini’s band plays what she calls "Indian Jazztronica", and includes electric guitar, the EWI, a type of electronic wind instrument, and bass and drums; her own singing and violin playing remains deeply rooted in the Carnatic or South Indian tradition. She’s part of the loose local collective known as Brooklyn Raga Massive, and on July 19, she plays a set with her band, followed by a Brooklyn Raga Massive jam session, at Littlefield in Brooklyn.
