Brian Lehrer Close Reading: The Blueprint to End Gun Violence

The Brian Lehrer Show | Feb 8, 2022

Mayor Adams urged all New Yorkers to reserve judgement about his Blueprint to End Gun Violence until they read the actual plan. So let's read it and talk about it together on the show. Here are some discussion questions to get you started.

  1. Does the Blueprint as a whole make you feel like New York City will be more safe for you and your children if this is all implemented? Why or why not?
  2. Do the policing aspects of the Blueprint give you confidence that Mayor Adams can strike the balance he’s looking for between public safety and justice more effectively than mayors and NYPD’s of the past?
  3. Read the non-law enforcement parts of the Blueprint, like Expanded Mental Health Care and Summer Youth Employment and tell us if you think those will make the city safer and more humane. Why or why not?
  4. Which section leaves you with the most unanswered questions?
  5. Is there something in the blueprint that surprised you?

In the coming days we'll have breakout segments about sections in the report, and then a masterclass with expert guests for a close reading and your calls.
