#3764: Brass Band Music Aplenty

Listen to brass band music from the world over, with Mexican banda music, Balkan brass, Ethio-jazz, and North African music arranged for brass band plus traditional percussion instruments.  Hear traditional Mexican banda music from an all-star collection of players, the Brooklyn-based Banda de los Muertos, featuring both Jacob Garchik and Oscar Noriega. Garchik has done arrangements for Kronos Quartet, in addition to recording his own gospel trombone record, while Noriega is a composer and multi-instrumentalist who has worked with everyone from modern jazzer Tim Berne’s Snakeoil to the electro-indie pop of Majical Cloudz; they were both part of Brooklyn Balkan brass band Slavic Soul Party. Also, hear music from Fanfarai, a brass street band from France who have combined North African music and its traditional percussions, Arabo-Berber, Afro-Cuban, Latin and Jazz sounds. Then, there’s music from well-traveled Persian singer Mamak Khadem, featuring a Macedonian brass band, the Agusevi Dzambo Orkestar. Plus, hear jazzy-Afrobeat music from Benin by the Gangbe Brass Band and traditional second line music of New Orleans from the Broken Brass Ensemble, based in the Netherlands. Listen to music of the Mardi Gras Indian Tribes of New Orleans and the Maracatu Nations of northeastern Brazil together in music from Nation Beat, from their recent Carnival Caravan release, and so much more.
