London’s post-punk scene is pretty crowded, but even so, Big Joanie stands out. Big Joanie is a trio of Black women whose music draws on the feminist rock of the 90s riot-grrl movement, the synthy sounds of 80s dance rock, and even the girl group harmonies of the 60s. It all adds up to a buoyant, high-energy sound on Big Joanie’s new sophomore release, which is called Back Home. Their song “Cactus Tree” is part of our Weekly Music Roundup.
