The soul and blues singer Bettye LaVette has had an unusual career – an early hit in the 60s when she was a teenager, a 6 year run on Broadway in the hit musical Bubbling Brown Sugar, and an unexpected revival of interest in her music after the turn of this century. Now, you’ll find her singing her own distinctive versions of songs by Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Aretha Franklin and Gnarls Barkley. Bettye LaVette performs Monday night, July 15, at City Winery.
