Being 'Complicit' in 2017

The Brian Lehrer Show | Dec 1, 2017

"Complicit" is 2017's word of the year, according to Dictionary.com. The word, according to the website, became relevant in culture and politics, and refusing to be complicit was a "grounding force" this year as well.

Jane Solomon, lexicographer at Dictionary.com, discusses the websites' choice for 2017 word of the year, and runner ups.

  • Complicit means “choosing to be involved in an illegal or questionable act, especially with others; having partnership or involvement in wrongdoing.” Or, more simply, complicit means being, at some level, responsible for something . . . even if indirectly.
