Beethoven's 9th Symphony

The NYPR Archive Collections | Jan 1, 2000

The training orchestra of the National Orchestral Association rehearses under the direction of Leon Barzin. Behind the Scenes in Music was planned by the association to enable the average person to hear orchestral rehearsals and to learn to understand the problems involved in the preparation of an orchestral work.

The program begins with an introduction of the training orchestra of the National Orchestral Association under the direction of Leon Barzin as they rehearse Beethoven's 9th Symphony. Barzin goes through the piece and explains how to create the correct mood for the piece, correcting and instructing musicians as necessary. The entire rehearsal is covered in the program.
