Why We Need a Universal Basic Income (and How It Would Work)
Andrew Yang, tech entrepreneur, founder of the non-profit Venture for America, 2020 presidential hopeful, and the author of The War on Normal People: The Truth About America's Disappearing Jobs and Why Universal Basic Income Is Our Future (Hachette Books, 2018) argues that the elimination of jobs due to automation and artificial intelligence means we need to move away from a market-based economy and provide a universal basic income to all.
@AndrewYangVFA says he became convinced the reason Donald Trump is our president is because we "automated away" the jobs in Ohio, PA, etc. + says he's running for president to have America confront the struggles of economic transition + embrace things like universal basic income.

@AndrewYangVFA says the smartest ppl in the country right now are trying to automate away even more jobs (truck driving, retail etc.). His universal basic income plan is $1K/month per adult. Says it would create jobs + grow the economy. Would be funded through a value-added tax.
