Baseball Season, 2018: It's a Washout

WNYC News | Jun 4, 2018

The Yankees have the best record in baseball right now. (Don't @ me, Red Sox fans — we're going by winning percentage.) The team is also currently tied with the Detroit Tigers for...most postponements, with eight each. According to Mike Teevan, vice president of communications for Major League Baseball, the entire league has experienced 37 postponements in the first 2+ months of the 2018 season. Compare that to last year, when there 39 rainouts for the entire season.

"The total has eclipsed many recent full-season totals," Teevan said, pointing out that only three of the previous 13 seasons have finished with higher totals than the 37 so far.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone is worried about the team's grueling schedule, what with all the doubleheaders now stacking up. "I've never looked at weather reports and radar so much in my life," he said. "I'm not getting any better at reading them, either."
