Ashley Fure's The Force of Things: An Opera for Objects at Gelsey Kirkland Art Center

Composer Ashley Fure likes to blur the boundaries between noise and music. She also has a dramatic flair that blurs the boundaries between obvious narrative and more elusive suggestions. Her new opera – or as she calls it, “an opera of objects” – is entitled The Force of Things, is a collaboration with the architect Adam Fure, her brother, and the band ICE (International Contemporary Ensemble.) It also involves 24 channels of sound so low that humans can’t hear it. "Drama is steered away from the human, time is stretched to a geologic scale, and seven live performers act as wordless harbingers of a consciousness not limited to the living." (GK Arts Center)

Ashley Fure's opera of objects called The Force of Things runs tonight through Wednesday at the Gelsey Kirkland Art Center in Brooklyn as part of the Mostly Mozart Festival.
