Violinist Arun Ramamurthy is part of the loose collective of New York musicians known as Brooklyn Raga Massive. As the name suggests, these musicians begin with the sounds of Indian classical music, but they incorporate the sounds of jazz, contemporary Western classical music and more. Ramamurthy’s work grows specifically from the music of South India, the so-called Carnatic tradition, and freely explores the kindred spirit of Raga music and Jazz, resulting in a deeply invigorating and spiritual experience. Arun Ramamurthy and his trio play on Jan. 4 at Joe’s Pub.
