Art of Nancy Graves / Poser, Mimi; Graves, Nancy

The NYPR Archive Collections | Jan 1, 2000

Nancy Graves work was recently on display at the Knoedler & Co. gallery. Mimi Poser talks with the artist about her painting and sculpture. Graves begins by addressing her use of what Poser calls 'art as an agent of disturbance.' She goes on to describe her inclusion of science and prehistoric archeology in her works and her attempt to create a cultural synthesis between art, science and nature. Graves also talks about her change of work and technique as well as her relationship to abstract expressionism.
