The Metropolitan Opera continues its recent pivot towards contemporary and historically underrepresented composers by presenting X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X, an opera by Anthony Davis that had its premiere here in New York in 1986. That New York City Opera debut was a promising one – but the work disappeared for decades. Now, The Met is presenting the revised version of Davis’s opera in a new production that, sadly, remains as relevant now as it was almost 40 years ago. X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X, the opera by Anthony Davis is running at The Met from Nov. 18-Dec. 2.
