Another hurricane season is underway and NYC's basement tenants are as unsafe as ever

It’s been more than nine months since the waters of Hurricane Ida flooded tens of thousands of homes and killed 11 residents of basement apartments in Queens. The storm made the dangers of basement apartments – impossible to ignore. But as the months have ticked by, and with another hurricane season upon us, WNYC’s Gwynne Hogan reports city and state officials have done little to make basement tenants safer.
