The duo Anna & Elizabeth have roots in both the folk traditions of Kentucky and Virginia, but both musicians also have close ties to the New York contemporary music scene. They’ve traveled through the south and more recently through small towns in New England, collecting rare and obscure folk songs and then creating their own arrangements that use fiddle, banjo, pump organ, and their own often bewitching harmonies. The experimental-folk duo Anna & Elizabeth plays Friday night, Jan. 4, at Joe’s Pub.
