March 11. 7:30PM. $52+up.
All this year, Carnegie Hall is presenting United In Sound: America at 250. The next concert in the series is on March 11 and features the American Composers Orchestra, with a program of world premieres they’re calling Hello America: Letters to US, From Us. New York’s own Joseph C. Phillips Jr. will unveil his piece We Hold These Truths To Be Self Evident, and Shelley Washington debuts her Haymaker, a work with a featured cellist who also plays a kick drum. ACO and soloists will also perform premieres by Suzanne Kite, Jessie Montgomery, and Brittany J. Green. As described by the ensemble, these open letters to America “reflect narratives around the summer homes of turn-of-the-century Black folk, dreams, unspoken emotions, rituals of celebration, and the connection between the historic and current patriotism of Black American women.” American Composers Orchestra premieres these five works at Carnegie’s Zankel Hall.
