Allison Russell at Central Park Summerstage

Allison Russell is half of the folk rock band Birds of Chicago, and one fourth of the Black roots music quartet known as Our Native Daughters. But she is also the solo artist behind the album Outside Child, a remarkable collection of autobiographical songs about trauma and survival and most of all, community. What could have been a dark album is full of uplift, as Russell draws on vintage rock’n’roll, Memphis soul, blues and country. Allison Russell plays on Tuesday, Aug. 24, on a bill with Lake Street Dive at Central Park Summerstage.
