Sean Paul's 'Dutty Rock,' A Volcanic Marriage in 'Fire of Love,' 'My Broken Language,' 'Roberta' Documentary
Dancehall star Sean Paul released his breakthrough album Dutty Rock 20 years ago this month. The now-multiplatinum album spawned several hit singles, launched Paul to global fame, and helped shape mainstream pop in the years following. Paul joins us to discuss the album's legacy and his career.
The documentary, "Fire of Love," follows the lives of Katia and Maurice Krafft, French volcanologists who were killed in 1991, along with over 40 other people, in a pyroclastic flow in Japan. Director Sara Dosa joins to discuss her documentary, which is available to stream on Disney+.
Quiara Alegría Hudes is a Pulitzer-winning playwright who is perhaps best known for writing the book for the musical, "In the Heights." Currently, through November 27, she directs a stage adaptation of her memoir, My Broken Language, running at The Pershing Square Signature Center. Hudes joins us to discuss her show.
The new documentary "Roberta" provides a portrait of the life and career of the celebrated vocalist Roberta Flack, who just this week revealed she had been diagnosed with ALS, making it difficult for her to speak or sing. Director Antonino D’Ambrosio joins us to discuss the film and artist. "Roberta" will have its world premiere at DOC NYC tonight (Thursday, November 17) at 7:30 PM, and become available to screen online tomorrow.
