Amanda Seyfried on 'Mank,' Reporting on Rodney King, Changes in Media, R+R=NOW, MoMA's New Exhibit

All Of It with Alison Stewart | Mar 3, 2021

Actor Amanda Seyfried was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role as Marion Davies in "Mank", David Fincher’s Netflix film about the making of "Citizen Kane." She joins to talk about the film, her role, and what’s next in her career.

30 years ago, a police beating of a Black motorist named Rodney King, was caught on videotape causing global outrage. The world—and the Los Angeles community—was further outraged when all four policemen were acquitted of all charges. The riots that followed the verdict remain the most destructive in history. But what progress have we made since? And how did Rodney King himself deal with the trauma of police brutality and an inequitable justice system? New York Times columnist and West Coast native Kurt Streeter, who interviewed King extensively, joins to discuss.

Inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, some news outlets like the Boston Globe are taking a new look at previously published stories like minor arrests, that can alter someone’s abilities to get a loan, or an apartment, or a job long term. Joining us to discuss this new initiative is NPR media reporter David Folkenflik.

Pianist Robert Glasper and trumpet player Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah join us to talk about the new live album from their supergroup R+R=NOW. We also continue our conversation with Adjuah about his solo album Axiom, nominated for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album, and we speak to Glasper about his own Grammy-nominated album, F*** Yo Feelings, which is up for Best Progressive R&B Album. Both musicians have additional nominations this year.

Mabel O. Wilson, the Nancy and George E. Rupp professor of architecture, planning, and preservation at Columbia University, and associate curator in the Department of Architecture and Design at MoMA, Sean Anderson, join us to discuss organizing a new show at MoMA titled, Reconstructions: Architecture and Blackness in America, which runs through May 31, 2021.
