NY Nico & NYC Small Businesses, Billie Holiday Interview Tapes, Get Lit: Louise Erdrich & Buffy Sainte-Marie
Last Monday was Cyber Monday, when big companies slash their prices in the hopes of luring early holiday shoppers with great deals. This Monday, we're teaming up with Instagram personality Nicolas Heller, also known as NY Nico, to highlight the small, local, and independent businesses around New York City, many of which have seen business slow this year due to the pandemic.
A new documentary draws on interviews conducted by journalist Linda Lipnack Kuehl in her attempt to write the definitive biography of Billie Holiday. She never finished the work, and the interview tapes were never heard, until now. Director James Erskine joins us to discuss his new documentary, “Billie,” which premiered online December 4.
We’ll air our conversation with National Book Award winner, Pulitzer Prize finalist, and Library of Congress Prize for American Fiction winner, Louise Erdrich, from our latest Get Lit with All Of It book club about her new novel, The Night Watch Man. The book is inspired by the true story of Erdrich’s grandfather, a Chippewa man who fought to oppose the “Termination Bill,” an attempt by the federal government in the 1950s to terminate Native American rights.
As part of our latest Get Lit with All Of It book club, we’ll air a performance by singer-songwriter and activist, Buffy Sainte-Marie.
