English composer Gavin Bryars created this piece in the 1970s called The Sinking Of The Titanic. Inspired by the tale of the band that played while the ship sank, it has an appropriately deep, oceanic sound, full of taped sounds that include the voices of Titanic survivors almost hidden in the mix. The piece has become a classic, and the New York band ACME is celebrating its 15th anniversary by playing Gavin Bryars’ music, including this piece on Friday, Jan. 17, at the Tenri Cultural Institute.
