This production of Radio Moscow focuses on the film "Nepridumannaya istoriya" (A True Story, 1964) directed by Vladimir Gerasimov, starring Zhanna Prokhorenko and produced by Mosfilm. The screenplay, written by Ilya Zverev, is based on the life of a woman he met in a Ukrainian mining town.

Varya, a young wife, leaves her husband Anatoli and moves to a remote mining town with their young son. There she meets Kostya who wishes to marry her, but she cannot bring herself to be unfaithful to Anatoli. Closing scenes from the film are acted out by Radio Moscow reporters.
