New Design for West Side Stadium

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

The New York Jets have unveiled a new design for their proposed West Side Stadium. WNYC's Andrea Bernstein reports.

The Jets are furiously fighting to win public opinion in these last weeks before the stadium faces its final approval. Architect William Pederson says the new design was drawn to address several factors.

Not the least of which is the community desire to have a building that is more vibrant, and .... smaller as well.

The building looks like a glass shoebox perched on the West Side highway. The previous design was criticized for looking boxy, unimaginative, and commercial. A state board could give final approval for the project February 16th. Meanwhile the Jets have yet to come to an agreement with the MTA over a fair price for the site.

An Assembly Committee holds hearings today on the MTA's assessment of the value of the land.
