Schumer Says Freedom Tower "Losing Steam"

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

Senator Charles Schumer told city business leaders that the effort to raise the Freedom Tower where the World Trade Center once stood is "losing steam."

The senior senator noted that four years after 9-11, the steel for the Freedom Tower hasn't even been ordered. Schumer said that -- in his words -- "a culture of inertia has infected downtown redevelopment and our city in general."

But the senior senator said he's not blaming Governor Pataki and Mayor Bloomberg.
