Times Endorsement Could Affect DA Race

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

Election watchers say today's New York Times endorsement of Leslie Crocker-Snyder could have an impact on her race with Manhattan D.A. Robert Morgenthau.

REPORTER: The question is how much. Political consultant Hank Sheinkopf says the nod from the establishment paper could be worth 5 to 10 percentage points.

SHEINKOPF: It's not on people's minds much, but with the Times endorsement, it'll become more important to people, and they'll be making decisions. So what might have been a sleeper before will certainly become much, much closer.

REPORTER: But consultant Norman Adler says voters are unlikely to vote out an incumbent district attorney who is viewed positively. He doubted most voters would agree with the Times, which said 30 years is long enough "for any executive to accomplish his or her mission."

The New York Daily News has expressed support for Morgenthau over Crocker-Snyder.
