MTA Releases Holiday Metrocards

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

Subway riders took advantage of the MTA's holiday goodwill gesture, and snatched up discount Metrocards that went on sale. Just 250-thousand cards were printed up. They cost $76, the same as a monthly metrocard, but are good for 41 days.

Those 41 days are inside a specific window of time, from November 23rd, until January 2nd. There will also be discounts for riders who use regular and weekly Metrocards. The MTA has a billion dollar surplus, and is spending some of it on the discounts.

The agency is still planning to raise fares in 2007 to deal with looming budget deficits.
