"Mafia Cops" Trial Goes to Jury Tomorrow

Jurors hearing the case of two former New York City detectives accused of being hitman for the mob will get instructions from the judge tomorrow before starting deliberations.

During closing arguments today Louis Eppolito's lawyer described his client as a dedicated lawman and aspiring screenplay writer, who was framed by corrupt government witnesses.

But Prosecutors say Eppolito and his ex-partner, Stephen Caracappa, were involved in eight killings between 1986 and 1990 while on the payrolls of the NYPD and Luchese crime family underboss Anthony "Gaspipe" Casso.

If convicted, the retired detectives face possible sentences of life in prison.
