Bridgeport Mayor Speaks Out About His Cocaine Use

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

The mayor of Bridgeport, Connecticut, plans to make a public statement this morning about his drug use while in office.

Bridgeport Mayor John Fabrizi yesterday told the editorial board of the Connecticut Post that he did indeed use cocaine while serving as the city's chief elected official but says he quit well over a year ago.

The FBI mistakenly released a report in which an alleged drug dealer claimed an associate had a videotape of the mayor using cocaine. A US Attorney involved with the drug investigation has apologized for the release of the report, which was supposed to be sealed. He says Mayor Fabrizi is not a target of the investigation.

Adversaries had been calling on Fabrizi to resign. A spokeswoman for the Democratic mayor says Fabrizi is not resigning but she declined to say what the mayor would be talking about.
