Two Queens Men Charged With Hate Crime

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

Prosecutors in Queens say two young white men have been charged with a hate crime for an attack on four young Asian men. The incident took place early Saturday morning in the Douglaston section.

District Attorney Richard Brown says the four Chinese-American men were in a Lexus when a Toyota pulled up alongside of them. The men in the Toyota began cursing and shouting racial slurs before ramming the Lexus from behind. The men pulled over to inspect the damage to their car. That's when they were attacked.

Arrested in the attack were 19-year-old Kevin Brown, and 20-year-old Paul Heavey, both of Queens. The defendants are charged with assault, reckless endangerment and criminal mischief as hate crimes. If convicted, each faces eight to 15 years in prison.
