New York, NY —
A state senator from the Bronx faces charges of fraud and theft.
Prosecutors accuse State Senator Efrain Gonzalez Junior of steering $423 thousand in state grants from not-for-profit groups to his own pockets, to support a lavish lifestyle and finance his cigar business.
In August, Gonzales pleaded not guilty to federal charges he raided a non-profit to pay for baseball tickets, college tuition and other personal expenses.
The new charges relate to money that came from funds the state legislature allocates annually to certain groups.
