Black Leaders Protest Police Shootings

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

The city's African-American leaders plan a silent march down Fifth Avenue today to protest last month's police shooting that killed an unarmed Queens man and wounded two others. Police officers fired 50 rounds at Sean Bell's car as he was leaving a Queens strip club hours before he was to be married. Participants will include the Reverend Calvin O. Butts, pastor of Harlem's Abyssinian Baptist Church and head of the New York City Council of Churches. Butts is seeking a special prosecutor to investigate cases of police brutality and corruption. He's also calling on city officials to adopt new police policies ... and to move to rein in rogue officers.
