City Council Releases Report on Night Life Safety

New York, NY —

Following a spate of high-profile incidents involving night clubs, the City Council today released a report outlining steps to increase night life safety.

REPORTER: The report called Safer Nights, Safer City, is a recap of suggestions proposed by the Council earlier this year and reviewed at a Nightlife Safety Summit in September. They include establishing a group made up of police and night club leaders who will meet regularly and address issues as they arise.

This is a a significant step that sends a very different message to New Yorkers, said City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.

QUINN: It sends a message that the police and this industry, for the first time, perhaps ever, are working as team united.

REPORTER: David Rabin, owner of Lotus and president of New York Nightlife Association, which represents about 150 nightclubs, said club owners will be receptive to the recommendations.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly was not available for comment.
