Payment Plans for NJ Auto Insurance Companies

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

Auto insurance companies in New Jersey can continue to use a driver's job and education to decide how much that driver must pay for coverage.

A bid to make that practice illegal failed in a Senate committee yesterday after Governor Corzine's administration and insurers argued that the bill would impair competition and drive up rates. New Jersey has the nation's highest auto insurance rates.

The bill's sponsor, State Senator Nia Gill, implored her fellow senators on the Commerce Committee to at least release the bill so it could be debated on the Senate floor, but none of the other members joined her.
