Sharpton Joins Health Care Debate

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

The debate over Governor Spitzer's proposals to restructure the state's health care industry continued yesterday with Al Sharpton siding with health care unions and hospitals in several radio ads.

In the ad, sponsored by Local 1199 and a hospital lobbying group, Sharpton says that with HMO's receiving "excessive profits," he doesn't understand why Spitzer is picking on underpaid nurses to meet his bottom line. Meanwhile, the American Cancer Society, the American Diabetes Association and 5 other groups say they support Spitzer's focus on preventive care.
