Homelessness in Nassau County

The Nassau County executive says he's aiming to end homelessness in the county within 10 years. County Executive Thomas Suozzi has named a committee to devise a plan to do that.
In the meantime, the county is getting $7 million in federal money to help people who are chronically homeless. Both developments are coming a week after a report showed almost 4000 people were homeless on suburban Long Island on a single night in 2005.
The report counted more than 12,000 homeless people in Nassau County and more than 2700 homeless people in Suffolk. Suffolk County recently got more than $3 million in federal money to help the homeless.
