New Jersey Budget Reviewed

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

As the Federal government investigates New Jersey's budget practices, lawmakers have begun their review of Governor Corzine's $33 billion budget.

The Assembly's budget panel met with the state treasurer yesterday. Today, it will hear from the public at the Statehouse in the 1st of 4 planned public hearings. Corzine's budget would give schools and municipalities their first state aid increases in years, while cutting property-tax bills by 20% for most homeowners.

But, the spending proposal includes no increased funds for school construction, open space preservation or extra money for residents without health insurance.
