Bloomberg Ready to Negotiate Details of Congestion Pricing

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

Mayor Bloomberg says he's ready for what he calls a "reality-based dialogue" about his transportation plans.

REPORTER: At a conference sponsored by the Regional Plan Association, he said his proposal to charge drivers $8 for entering central Manhattan has gotten support from environmentalists, as well as business and labor leaders. As he turns his attention to Albany lawmakers, he said some aspects of the plan can still be negotiated.

BLOOMBERG: We'll talk about the boundaries of the congestion pricing the zone, the fees that might be charged the hours that might be applicable, and the methodology for administering the program but what we won't do - what we can't do - is postpone essential decisions any longer.

REPORTER: Queens City Councilman John Liu told a panel at the same conference that New Yorkers need to hear more details about how Bloomberg would improve mass transit before congestion pricing is implemented.
