Long Island Diocese Will Not Appeal Sex Abuse Verdict

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

The Roman Catholic diocese of Long Island says it will not appeal a jury's verdict in a sex abuse case. A Diocese of Rockville Centre spokesman says an appeal would only delay healing. A jury Friday found the diocese and a church parish negligent in the hiring and retention of a youth minister who molested two teenagers in his care over several years. The two victims were awarded a combined $11.4 million in damages.
