Fare Increase on NJ Transit

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

New Jersey Transit is set to raise fares nearly 10% for rail and bus customers beginning tomorrow. It's the first fare increase since July 2005 for NJ Transit. Authorities say the increase will close a roughly $60 million budget deficit and pay for new and expanded service.

Plans call for new rail cars with more seating and additional parking spaces. NJ Transit provides almost 857,000 weekday trips on bus routes, light rail and commuter rail lines.
